Overview
The Lagos State Government on Thursday revealed that the gas tanker that exploded on the Otedola bridge ignored a road sign barring trucks from using that section of the road.
In a statement released on Thursday by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during an assessment visit to the gas tanker explosion site, stated that this has necessitated further deployment of technical safety measures to avert such occurrence from happening in the future.
He affirmed that though there was a road sign signifying ‘No Truck Allowed’ at the corridor where the accident happened, the truck driver violated the rule, which led to the inferno on Tuesday night.
Osiyemi also confirmed that the assessment initiative afforded the team to have a broader report which is not limited to transport infrastructure alone, but other structures affected by the inferno, including the structural cracks on the bridge and its surrounding facilities to determine its integrity status.
