Lagos builds 61 roads, repairs over 1,000
The Lagos State Government has constructed 61 roads of 56.52km and five bridges in the last one year.
The government noted it was also increasing the pace of work on 147 other road and bridge projects ongoing in different parts of the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, made this known on Monday at Alausa Ikeja during the ministerial press briefing to commemorate the second year of the second term of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He noted that the Public Works Corporation had continued with a year-round maintenance via sectional repairs, overlay works, and pothole patching, adding that various interventions were carried out on 1,074 roads of 78.42 km and 218 drainage channels spanning 462 km across the state.
“In the same vein, the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance Agency has also significantly boosted Fibre Duct Expansion investment, with an additional 2,700km installations planned, and 3,000km completed to enhance connectivity. This was done while also securing a commitment of $22m foreign direct investment for quality fibre installations in Lagos State,” he said.
Daramola, who expressed delight at some of the projects, said despite global and national economic challenges, particularly from May 2024 to 2025, the time of infrastructure delivery had remained steady, noting that since December 2024, the state had commissioned 33 roads, while others were still under construction or rehabilitation.
He said, “From the inception of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Kadri Hamzat-led administration, the THEMES Agenda has served as a blueprint and a call to transformative action.
“Under the Pillar ‘T’ – Traffic Management and Transportation, the Office of Infrastructure has taken bold and strategic steps to improve road connectivity, expand access, and elevate infrastructure delivery standards.”
The Special Adviser listed some of the commissioned road projects to include the reconstruction of the damaged pedestrian bridge at Estate Gate, Alapere, Ketu, and the construction of the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with a Bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye local government.
Others include the construction of roads in Ikoyi, including Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Macpherson Avenue, and Femi Okunnu Road, Ilabere, Ilu, and Inupa roads in Victoria Island, and the construction of the Babafemi Dada network of roads, including Yinka Folarin, Jamiu Lawal, and Shalom Academy Roads, with a bridge in the Alimosho area of the state, among others.
