Overview

In a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage and wildlife conservation, the Boki Gorilla Carnival and Festival was officially unveiled in Cross River State.
Chief Emmanuel Abang, the initiator of the event, said the festival is a celebration of the Boki people’s identity and their commitment to protecting the critically endangered Cross River gorilla.

He disclosed that the festival, set to commence in 2026, will be based on three pillars: the Boki Gorilla Carnival and Festival, showcasing traditional dances, music, art, and the community’s bond with the rainforest; the Miss Wildlife Queen Beauty Pageant International, empowering young women to advocate for wildlife conservation and sustainability; and Project Growth, aimed at generating revenue opportunities for women and youth through community-based tourism and heritage conservation.

“It will ensure that the economic benefits of our festival directly enrich the lives of the people who are the true caretakers of our forest,” Abang said.
