Overview
An increasing number of Yoruba traditional rulers are now being buried according to Islamic rites, marking a shift from long-established cultural burial practices.
While monarchs have traditionally been regarded as custodians of Yoruba spirituality and heritage, many who practised Islam during their lifetimes are now laid to rest in line with the religion’s demand for swift burial, often just hours after their death.
