Overview

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned a Nigerian Air Force airstrike that struck Jilli Market along the Borno–Yobe border, describing the incident as tragic and raising questions about the protection of civilian lives during military operations.

They had reported that no fewer than 30 people were feared killed after a military airstrike struck the popular weekly market between Gubio and Geidam areas on Saturday evening.

The incident reportedly left traders and residents in panic as explosions rocked the busy trading centre.

The NAF has confirmed conducting precision airstrikes in the Jilli axis as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations under Operation Hadin Kai on April 11, 2026.
