Overview

The ongoing Kayokayo Festival in Epe, Lagos State, has been described as a spiritual and symbolic celebration that promotes tourism, commerce, and cultural exchange.

Coordinator of the Kayokayo Festival Planning Committee, Mr. Bayo Okulu, stated this on Tuesday while highlighting the socio-economic and historical importance of the annual event.

“The Kayokayo Festival is not just a celebration it is a sacred cultural heritage rooted in the arrival of Oba Kosoko to Epe after his exile from Lagos Island,” he said.

Okulu noted that the festival, which celebrates peace, unity, and the identity of the Epe people, significantly boosts local commerce, especially among hotels, food vendors, artisans, and transporters.

“This festival draws visitors from across Nigeria and abroad tourists, researchers, and culture lovers alike. Their presence directly impacts the local economy, providing increased patronage and opportunities for small businesses,” he said.

He added that the 2025 edition includes a boat regatta, youth empowerment workshops, Qur’anic recitations, football tournaments, and a symbolic procession in honour of Oba Kosoko.
