Nollywood Actor, Odira Nwobu Dies In South Africa
Nigerian actor and content creator, Odira Nwobu, is dead. President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, confirmed the death of Nwobu to BBC Igbo. Rollas said: “It is true that Odira Nwobu is dead. He died in South Africa.”
According to reports, Nwobu travelled to South Africa for a performance with comedian Chibuike Gabriel popularly know as Untouchable. Fellow actor Ajemba Stanley Chibueze nicknamed Stanley Ontop said that Nwobu returned to his hotel on Sunday morning after a night out and suffered a hypertensive episode caused by high blood pressure. He was said to have passed away shortly after.
A video posted online shows Nwobu enjoying himself at a nightclub hours before the reported incident. Some fans are reacting with shock, saying his final appearance showed no sign of distress.
Nwobu’s death comes months after he survived a serious car accident earlier in 2025.
Many fans remember him for his joyful personality, comedy skits, and memorable Nollywood roles. His supporters are also using this moment to call for better awareness of high blood pressure, especially among young entertainers with stressful careers.
