Overview
For a while, it seemed that Honda would take over Nissan, but this did not happen. A Japanese newspaper reported that Toyota also wanted to assist Nissan, but this did not result in any concrete actions either.
The new Nissan Micra is firmly based on the Renault 5, but it could easily have been a Toyota Yaris. Perhaps we’re moving too fast here, but according to Japanese newspaper Mainichi, cited by Automotive News, Toyota did indeed want to help Nissan when takeover talks with Honda fell through. A Toyota spokesperson is even said to have confirmed that the world’s largest carmaker has seriously looked into the matter.
