Lagos to launch state-issued driver’s licence

The Lagos government says it will launch a state-owned driver’s licence in partnership with the federal government to improve road safety and traffic management.

Speaking on Monday at a press briefing in Ikeja, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, commissioner for transportation, said Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, is expected to approve the rollout of the licence scheme in the coming weeks.

“Our Lagos driver’s licence will be launched in a couple of weeks as we get a nod from Mr Governor,” he said.

Osiyemi noted that motorists will have the option of obtaining either the federal driver’s licence or the Lagos-issued licence.
