Overview

Following the circulation of posters and handbills announcing a restriction of movement for a planned Egungun (masqueraders) festival in the Oregun area of Lagos, the state police command has arrested 12 suspects linked to the notice.

The posters, purportedly issued by “The Oje Parapo of Oregun”, advertised a masquerader festival scheduled for November 27 (today) and warned “the general public and the entire people of the Oregun community” that “nobody should be seen outside from 10:00 pm till 4:00 am on the 27th/28th of November 2025.”

They further stated that traditional rites would go “round the whole of Oregun” at midnight, adding that “all lights should be off by 10:00pm prompt. Both indigenes and non-indigenes were warned to “stay indoors from 10:00pm till 4:00am on the 27th/28th of November 2025.”

Reacting to the widespread circulation of the flyers, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed on Wednesday that 12 suspects had been arrested for distributing the handbills and posters.
